Pick of the Week
This Satirical Thriller
Director Coralie Fargeat's daring satire tackles the tyranny of women's appearance along with the perceived horrors of growing older. The veteran actress presents an inspired performance in the role of Elisabeth, an aging film star reduced to hosting a workout series on television. Pushed out due to her unscrupulous employer Harvey, played by Dennis Quaid, she undergoes a secretive and terrifying process known as this experimental method. This generates a younger clone named Sue, resulting in a steadily more parasitic dynamic between the two. October 17th, the streaming service Paramount+

Yet once an unknown lady goes overboard one night and everyone insists she wasn't real, the reporter's sleuthing skills awaken. Out now, Netflix
This Supernatural Story
Soderbergh challenges his creative boundaries in this nifty supernatural story filmed completely through the eyes of the spirit. After a clan featuring mother Rebekah and her distressed teen Chloe occupies their new suburban house, the filming device – as the unseen entity – tracks their movements. The daughter appears conscious of the poltergeist, and it seems defensive toward her. However, the motive remains? It's a fun idea that remains concise, with a twist you might not see coming. This Saturday, multiple showings, the Sky channel
The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent
Nicolas Cage wholeheartedly adopts his cult stardom via this self-referential adventure. He acts as a self-obsessed film star called Nicolas Cage who takes on a lucrative offer to appear at a birthday party in Mallorca for the rich superfan Javi. Recruited by government spies to gather intel on the potential kingpin, the actor's unique performing skills is put to the test. Saturday 11 October, evening, on Channel 4
The Black Phone Horror
Scott Derrickson's locked-room horror remains effective without requiring a sequel. Taking place in the late 70s in Denver, several child abductions has made the children on edge. When Finney is kidnapped by the villain and held captive in a basement, he fears a terrible outcome. Yet the non-functional line in the room continues to ring, with spooky callers giving advice, as the prophetic visions of Gwen, his sister may be his salvation. An effective horror. This Saturday, nighttime, Film4
The Eyes of Tammy Faye
In the struggle between God and Mammon, it's a knockout win for materialism in Showalter's delightfully tacky film adaptation about the fallen TV preacher plus her lawbreaking partner. Garfield plays the corrupt Bakker, who proclaims early on, “God does not want us to be poor,”. Both individuals commence profiting from the people's Christian beliefs. It's a spectacle of tacky decor, excessive cosmetics and insincerity, however the lead actress achieves to depict Tammy Faye in a likable light. Next Tuesday, late night, Film4
The Spy Mystery
The current week's another release from Steven Soderbergh is a spy mystery as precise like the turtlenecks sported by the actor's UK spy. He is tasked with uncovering a mole among the team from five suspects – one of whom is Kathryn, played by Cate Blanchett. The two stars are experts of understated style, resulting in an engaging mind game of deception or honesty unfolds. Tom Burke, Regé-Jean Page, Naomie Harris and Marisa Abela take part the intelligent intelligence fun. Friday 17 October, 8.05am, 12.55pm, 8pm, Sky Cinema Premiere
